I know I waited a while to put up my next post, but I thought I would wait till the end of the week and just give the low down on everything that has happened since Wednesday.

Thursday was a really nice day because Mathieu's father and sister came into town on their way back from the mountains to go back home. Roland, his father, and Emilie, his sister, came to the apartment and we went downtown to eat lunch together and meet up with Mathieu's aunt who works at one of the universities in the city. We all ate at this cute little place called the Paradise Fruit and we had smoothies and a great lunch. They are so sweet and it was really good to see them all again. Also being with them made the day go by a whole lot quicker, which is always a plus. After lunch, Roland, Emilie and I went back to the apartment to hang around for a little bit then they said their goodbyes and headed back to Riom, their home and final destination. After they left, I occupied myself with small things around the apartment till Mathieu got home.

Friday was a pretty fun day. To start off the day it was pretty interesting because I had to go to the doctor so I could get a prescription filled here in France. When I finally made my way to the building, I got buzzed inside and walked to the elevator to bring me up to the office. Once I got in I immediately thought I should have taken the stairs. The Car of the elevator was no wider than three feet and about two and a half feet deep. Talk about feeling
claustrophobic. And the car shook in an awful manner that kind of got me fearing for my life.

Once I got out of the moving coffin I made my way inside the office. The secretary opened the door and she welcomed me in. She sat me down on a chair and she sat at her wooden desk. She asked me a list of questions, but seeing my blank face when she waited for an answer, she tired for a different approach and asked me one word phrases in English to write on a piece of paper. Once the secretary was done with me, I was guided to the waiting room to await my turn to see the doctor.

The doctor understood English, but only knew a few words for speaking. Thankfully, I had Mathieu write down a guided list for the doctor to look at because none of the medical French terms were in my vocabulary yet. She looked them over and gave me an approving nod and we talked for a bit. After a few minutes of conversing, she wrote my prescription and my note for my insurance company and I was sent on my way. As a note, it does not cost you an arm and a leg to go to a doctor in France. That was something to be thankful for.

After my adventures with the doctor, I went back to my apartment, packed my backpack with my camera and money and went on another "Izzy's wonderful city tour!" I never went on the other side of the river so I decided it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to familiarize myself with that part of the city. Across the bridge I walked and up and down the small winding streets. It was really nice to see the other side of the city. I came across a park on the riverside that I meandered around and people watched. I found old men hanging around on park benches, shooting the shit with buddies and playing petanque, a game you play that is slightly similar to bachi ball.

Once I crossed back over the bridge, I came across a beautiful building that upon further investigation was an art museum. I decided it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check it out so I bought a ticket and walked through the exhibits. It was interesting to see the collections of furniture and art from the 16th century on display. It was breathtaking that what I was looking at was older than my home country. They museum also had more current art pieces from Impressionism to Pointillism and a few others.

After my tour of the artwork, I went back out to the streets to see what other interesting things I could find. There were some great places to shop that I passed by that I didn’t feel too guilty to walk into. One was a vinyl shop where I bought a few records for half price. I shopped around a good bit, and when found myself in a familiar part of town, I headed back to the apartment to relax and play videogames.

On Saturday after grocery shopping, Mathieu, Tom, our roommate, and I went out on the town and went shopping because of all the sales going on. It was a cluster on the streets. People were everywhere trying to get to the shops that they wanted to before it was too late. I’m not really too fond of shopping in conditions like this and thankfully neither was Mathieu, so we just walked about the city while Tom did the bargain hunting.

We came to the Capitole Building and there was some sort of cultural parade slash performance where people from different regions of France and other European countries walked to the front of the Capitole Building and showed their stuff with different dances and music. It was really interesting to watch and very entertaining. The period clothing was cute too.

After the merrymaking we had walking around the city, they three of us went back home to eat dinner and to drink. After our after dinner cocktails were done, we ventured off downtown to a great bar slash club in St. Pierre's Square which is 5 minutes walking from our house. Fun times to be had by all.

Sunday was a pretty lax day where we just lazed about the apartment and chit chatted. In the afternoon, we got invited over to Mathieu's aunt and uncle for swimming and for dinner. They made a huge serving of paella with different sizes of shrimp, mussels, squid, and great wine and champagne. It was a great day to end the week.

I survived my first week in France with flying colors.
This week, we will see how well I fair.

Traveling to Toulouse was relatively painless. The flight was kinda long and boring, but for the most part I got through with flying colors. Heathrow wasn't as much as a nightmare as i thought it would be, and during my 6 hour lay over in Houston I made friends with some cute ladies and they taught me how to play a card game called "Skip-Bo."

The day that I arrived in Toulouse it was amazing. We got to the apartment and when i dropped off my bags in our room, there was a bouquet of roses sitting on the bed. Then when i set my bags down, I turned to see him walking with a bottle of champagne and two glasses. It was a good welcome home to say the least.

As well as getting champagne and kisses, I was also given my new phone, my own key to the apartment, and my laptop! Yay! I think I'm pretty much set except for one thing.....I don't know french...so that might be a problem for a while..

Today was Part 1 of my adventures. I woke up kinda late because jet lag wasnt too kind to me, but once i got up and at em, I unpacked all of my things and put all my clothes in our closet and fixed everything else up that i need to stay comfortably in the apartment. Afterwards, i took my backpack and a map of the city and walked out of the door to the French city beyond.

I didn't really have an exact location on where i wanted to go, so i kinda just walked the streets and saw where my feet took me. The city was breathtaking, and quite large. I remembered Caza telling me about the sales that were going on in all of the shops in the city center... and funny how i found myself there. The streets were packed with shoppers.

There is one thing i can say about walking around with people around you, is that french people will not budge from thier line of walking. If they had a purpose to go somewhere, no one can break thier gate or direction. I quickly found that a bit annoying. I dont know if that is a regular thing, but i found it a bit odd. Maybe it was because it was crazy sales that made them have a feeding frenzy and not care about other people around them..but it was a bit strange.

So I walked about and i finally came across a supermarket that had celery, because I was going to surprize the boys with gumbo...but after not celery at all of the effing market i went to i almost gave up. But like a beacon of light, the store had celery and i bought all of my good for the gumbo. Satisfied i decided it was time to head back to the apartment and cook, so i looked at my map and headed home. Now this is when things started to get tricky. At some point i got turned around and headed in the completely opposite direction and i lead myself to the train station. Thinking walking wasnt doing any good anymore, I walked to the metro station to catch the metro back because there was a stop close to the apartment. My hopes were then crushed when i couldnt figure out on how to get a metro ticket. I went to each little keosk pressing buttons and trying to get what i thought was a ticket...but to no avail.

So feeling stupid and slightly annoyed that i coundnt figure something out as simple as buying a metro ticket, I walked all the way back with my groceries in hand. It took me a while to get back, but once i made it home, i started to make my awesome gumbo dish. That had to be the best gumbo i have made thus far. It was amazing...and aldo i made smoothies for dessert that came out pretty well.

So tomorrow is another day and i hope the adventures will be a bit better and i wont get lost. Haha!!

This is my last day in New Orleans...and on Father's Day. It was rather nice though. I had a good lunch with my parents and went out to dinner at the Gumbo Shop. I kinda wanted to indulge on foods that I wont really be able to get once I set foot on French soil...unless I made it myself or by some freak chance someone makes it.

But I savored the taste of my mom's awesome cooking with homemade garlic mashed potatoes and a killer pork roast...yum yum! And for dinner I had shrimp creole, jambalaya, and red beans and rice with seafood okra gumbo... :D...it was a combo platter, so I got a little bit of everything. So to say the least, food wise I went out with a bang. :)

Other than the good food, today was also my packing day. All I have to say is LAME!!! Stuffing your whole life into 2 big ass suitcases and one small carry on is no easy feat. I kinda got into a pickle when I was packing...but I managed to fit everything. My boyfriend will be surprised I think...but I'm moving...what do you expect?? My mother and I vacuum bagged a bunch of my clothes to give my bags more space to fit all the rest of my belongings in them...I didn't think I could have that many clothes. It was a major task...but it got done.

My nerves and mind are kinda out of wack today too. It always happens to me before I go on a long trip. Pre-trip jitters. But this time it's a little more intense. I guess it's a bit understandable....I kinda am moving to a different country...not just on a simple 3 week visit like the past few times...so I guess I have an excuse to be a little out of it. I'm on a roller coaster right now...but starting tomorrow my adventures commence and the real fun begins.

Cross your fingers everything goes OK and that the sleeping pills for the Atlantic Ocean flight work! lol

Only seven days till I set foot onto French soil. My brain still isn't comprehending that I'm actually leaving. It is a sort of odd feeling.

My last day of work was on the 12th, so now I don't have to worry about the Marriott anymore...Thank you Jesus. But at any rate, I have worked hard enough to have the money I need till I finally find some sort of employer overseas. At the Marriott I use to work at there is a woman in human resources that is trying to hook me out with a hotel in the city I am going to be stay in, Toulouse. So we will see if something pulls through. Till then, I think I'll probably just stick to my french classes and teaching myself to play guitar again to pass the time away.

I really am stoked to be going though. I never would have thought in a million years I would have this type of opportunity that is moving to a different country...let alone with a boyfriend that is from said country. I think if you would have told me that I was doing this my first year of college I would laugh at you and pretty much tell you you were a liar...Welp...Here i am, a week before I make my 180 degree change to my life and I still don't feel like I'm leaving for good. You would think at least the packing might set something off in this crazy head of mine, but nope! Not so much! Im sure it will finally start to soak in once i finally arrive there and begin to unpack my shit...then and only then will i might understand that I moved...

Only a week...Crazy...
